The Simplest Joys of Life
“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look
back and realize they were the big things.” – Kurt Vonnegut
As I sit here, sipping tea,
watching whatever comes on television, listening to Hindi songs in the
background, I realize how happiness and comfort come from the simplest of
things in life. This moment is life. There is nothing I am waiting on or trying
to achieve. I am simply living in this moment knowing the fact that tomorrow
remains uncertain.
So here I make an attempt to list
down six top simplest joys of life I have experienced today J
1. Waking up early on a Saturday
I woke up a bit too early for a
Saturday morning being fooled by my husband into thinking that breakfast was
ready and it just couldn’t wait. I had planned to remain in bed until at least
the noon but waking up being fooled early morning wasn’t so bad either. Sooner
you wake up, longer the day seems. Longer the weekend feels, happier the heart
is.
2. Making fluffy, tasty omelets
I am a decent cook. I can easily
prepare an edible meal for at least 10 people. But I usually screw up while
making omelets. Most days, I have to turn an omelet into scrambled eggs because
they just refuse to not stick to the pan. However, to my surprise, I prepared a
perfectly fluffy and tasty omelet without burning or breaking it into pieces
this morning. That was a pure joy.
3. Not having to clean the house or do the laundry
There are weekends that just get
over cleaning the house, putting dirty clothes into wash, drying them and then
folding dry clothes and finally putting them into cupboard. Today was
happiness. One of those rare occasions when I just didn’t care about the dust
on top of cabinets, dirty clothes in the laundry basket or even dishes in the
sink. They shall all wait.
4. Mom and Dad’s trip to the zoo
Dad called up in the afternoon
and said he wanted to have a video chat. I couldn’t understand why this sudden
need to video chat living just few miles apart. I realized that it was because
Mom and Dad had made a trip to the zoo and were boating so he wanted me to see
them. How Sweet! That surely was the highlight of the day.
5. A nice weather
How often does the weather become
so pleasant while you are at home, under the blanket with your most favorite
person? Not so often. I always find myself at work, in the middle of something
boring or trying to reach somewhere getting drenched, riding my scooter when
the weather is so pleasant. And I always wish that I was at home. And ta-da.
Here I am today, enjoying this nice weather and perfect combination of music
and tea.
6. Having ice-cream in the freezer and knowing it
is going to last the weekend.
Ice-cream equals to heavenly
happiness and when it is nicely kept in your freezer, it is like you freaking
own a piece of heaven. I bought myself my most favorite thing to eat this morning
and it is now in my freezer, coming out in pieces every now and then and I know
it’s going to last the weekend. And that my friend, is the joy of life.
To wrap it up, we all know how
life gets so busy and we are constantly trying to get from one point to another.
There is so much awesomeness in our everyday life that we forget to appreciate
it. We wait on vacations or something to end to appreciate the simplest joys of
life. Every day we get a chance to reflect on all these little awesomeness, we
either grab the chance or let it go without even giving it a thought.
Let’s smile more, worry less. Let’s
not put our happiness on hold. Let’s embrace the simplest joys of our everyday
life.
